Dr. Daniel Denis Laroche, Sr. was born in Jacmel, Haiti in 1932 and became one of the first Black residents in the Anesthesiology residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC. He worked at Jamaica Hospital in New York City for 25 years as anAnesthesiologist. He was on the front lines addressing health disparities and saving lives and will be remembered for his commitment to clinical and academic excellence, integrity, humor, patience, and class.

Supporting Future anesthesiologists

This scholarship is in memory of Dr. Daniel D.Laroche for a Black, Afro-Latino, or NativeAmerican medical school student interested in Anesthesiology who is committed to academic excellence, addressing health disparities, research, leadership, and innovation. Only 3% of Anesthesiologists are Black despite the fact at 12% of the American population is Black. Dr. Laroche Sr. always was concerned about this health disparity and delivering excellent healthcareto all.

Laroche Honorarium

Leading by Example

The LaRoche Honorarium at the National Medical Association anesthesia section is an award given to an individual for exemplary leadership in growth in community health,  continuing medical education and or Nationally recognized research.
